Not the best performance car I have ever owned — it was the same age as me — but it served its purpose. Newly married and with a baby on the way, my Triumph GT6 sports car had to be sold so we could raise enough money for a deposit on a section in the newly developed Goodwood Heights subdivision in Manukau. The section overlooked the airport where I worked at the time, and we could watch aircraft landing and taking off, with a great view of the Manukau Harbour and Manukau Heads in the background.
The one story I remember about this car was coming home from work one Friday night when the engine started running rough. I did a compression test and found one cylinder was down to only a few PSI. Poking around with a torch and turning the engine over slowly, my best guess was that it had burnt a valve. The next day I purchased an exhaust valve and some grinding paste, then removed the cylinder head. Sure enough, it was a burnt exhaust valve. I fitted the new valve, lapped it in with the grinding paste, reassembled everything, and she was back to running on all four again.
