M5 F90 Competition
Description

The F90 M5 uses an all-wheel drive ("xDrive") powertrain, being the first time that an M5 has not been rear-wheel drive. However the all-wheel drive system is biased towards the rear wheels. It can also be configured to send power to the rear wheels only, if the electronic stability control (ESC) is disabled. The transmission is an 8-speed ZF GA8HP75Z automatic.

The exterior of the M5 was designed by Seungmo Lim. The car was unveiled at the Gamescom in August 2017, to promote the launch of Need for Speed Payback. The M5 was also shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in September 2017.

BMW states the 2023 LCI F90 M5 Competition accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in  3.2 seconds. However several car magazine reviwers have felt the car was much quicker and have real world, tested its acceleration and engine horespower. In real world tests the 0-100km/hr time has found to be 2.95 secs and in imperial measurements 60 mph (97 km/h) is reached in 2.9 seconds and 100 mph (161 km/h) in 6.6 seconds. The standing 400m (quarter mile) is achieved in 10.9 seconds, making this iteration of the M5 a 10-second car. The top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), or 305 km/h (190 mph) with the optional M Driver's Pack. There is no data on what the top speed would be with no limiter. Despite the added weight of the all-wheel drive components, the F90 M5 is 40 kg (88 lb) lighter than the previous generation M5. It is also quicker in the 0-100km/hr sprint and 1/4 mile than its repalcement the Hybrid G90 M5. This is primarily due to the G90 weighing a whooping 540kg more than the F90. BMW state the competition engine produces 625 Hp. Car reviewers have often dyno tested this car and found it producing 617 Hp at the wheels, making the engine more like a 700 Hp engine.

In December 2017, the F90 M5 set the Guinness World Record for "Longest continuous vehicle drift" and "Longest twin vehicle drift (water assisted)" on a wet skidpad, with distances of 374 and 79 km (232 and 49 mi) respectively.

Modifications on this car

I have not carried out any modifications to this car, nor am I likely to do so. For me, it is already incredibly powerful.

This car is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing. On the surface, it’s a five-seater luxury sedan—featuring leather seats, laser headlights, semi-autonomous driving, four-zone climate control, massage front seats, and heated and ventilated seats both front and rear. It also boasts a Bowers & Wilkins 16-speaker premium sound system—the list just goes on and on.

Underneath, however, it’s a genuine supercar, capable of reaching 60 mph from a standstill in just 2.8 seconds and completing the quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds. That’s more powerful than many exotic supercars.

This truly is my dream car. I searched long and hard to find something that combines both luxury and sportiness—there’s nothing else quite like it.
